The first day of the India vs Bangladesh Test in Kanpur ended early due to heavy rain. Play was already delayed by an hour in the morning due to wet conditions, with the toss taking place at 10:00 AM and the match beginning at 10:30 AM. Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to field. India’s playing XI remained unchanged, while Bangladesh made two changes: Nahid Rana and Taskin Ahmed were replaced by Khaled Ahmed and Taijul Islam.
Openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam looked to provide a solid start, but the pressure of dot balls caused Zakir to lose his wicket for a duck, caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal off Akash Deep. Shadman Islam, who was batting confidently, was also dismissed by Akash Deep after scoring 24 runs off 36 balls, including four boundaries. Mominul Haque and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto then put together a crucial 51-run partnership for the third wicket. However, Ravichandran Ashwin broke the stand by trapping Shanto lbw for 31 runs off 57 balls. At the close of play, Mominul was unbeaten on 40, with Mushfiqur Rahim at 6. Akash Deep took two wickets, and Ashwin claimed one.
