Rabada and Spinners Shine as SA thrashed BAN at Home
Kagiso Rabada’s stunning spell with the help of spinners helped South Africa to claim an outstanding innings victory against Bangladesh at their own backyard.
BA vs SA 2nd Test – Scorecard
- South Africa 575 for 6 dec (de Zorzi 177, Stubbs 106, Mulder 105*)
- Bangladesh 143 (Mahmud 38, Maharaj 5-59, Muthusamy 4-45)
- Bangladesh 159 (Mominul 82, Rabada 5-37, Paterson 2-31, Maharaj 2-57)
South African batters posted a huge total on the board and the bowlers did the rest to dismiss Bangladesh under 160 runs in both innings resulting in a 273 runs innings victory. The second test ended on just the 3rd day as South Africa claimed the series by 2-0 in Asian conditions. This is a great achievement for the Proteas as they had a pretty bad record on Asian soil.
Maiden Hundreds Record
South Africa batted first and declared the innings with a score of 575-6 on the board. For the first time in South African cricket and for just the second time in Test history, three batters scored their maiden hundreds in the same innings. Tony de Zorzi, Tristan Stubbs, and Wiaan Mulder all scored centuries. De Zorzi was the top scorer with 177 runs. Bedingham and Muthusamy also smashed half-centuries. Taijul Islam was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh as he claimed a five-wicket haul but he was expensive as well.
Bowlers stunned Bangladesh
In reply, Bangladesh seemed to be batting on a completely different track as they had no answer to South African bowling. Bangladesh were 48-8 as Kagiso Rabada picked five wickets. Mominul Haque showed some fight and added more than 100 runs with Taijul Islam for the 9th wicket. Bangladesh were bowled out for 158 runs. Mominul scored 82 runs and only three batters were able to cross the double figure mark.
South Africa enforced the follow-on and the story was the same for Bangladeshi batters. Keshav Maharaj and Senuran Muthusamy were brilliant with the bowl in the second innings. Bangladesh were bowled out for just 143 runs and this time just 4 batters were able to cross the double figure mark. Maharaj picked up five wickets while Mathusamy grabbed a 4-wicket haul.
Bangladesh were just outplayed by South Africa in both tests. Despite being the host nation they weren’t even able to give tough time to the Proteas. South Africa won the series and the captain Aiden Markram received the trophy in the Asian conditions. The veteran pacer Kagiso Rabada was announced Player of the series due to his exceptional bowling in both tests. Toni de Zori was declared Man of the match due to his brilliant innings of 177 runs.
