India’s premier fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, has been ruled out of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 due to a lower back injury sustained during the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney last month. This is the second major ICC event the 31-year-old will miss because of back issues, having previously sat out the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
Harshit Rana Named as Replacement
In Jasprit Bumrah absence, Harshit Rana has been selected as his replacement in the 15-member squad. Rana has shown promise in the ongoing ODI series against England, taking four wickets in his first two matches. The final ODI is scheduled in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
Varun Chakaravarthy Replaces Yashasvi Jaiswal
The selectors have also included mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy in the squad, replacing opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jaiswal, along with Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube, has been designated as a non-traveling substitute.

India’s campaign in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 begins against Bangladesh on February 20, followed by a much-anticipated match against Pakistan on February 23. The final group stage game is set against New Zealand on March 2.

The tournament will be held from February 19 to March 9, 2025, hosted by Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. Due to security concerns, India’s matches are scheduled to take place in Dubai.
