Jaymeet Patel resilient unbeaten 74 has kept Gujarat in contention for a crucial first-innings lead in their Ranji Trophy semifinal against Kerala. After conceding 457 runs in Kerala’s first innings, Gujarat finished Day 4 at 429/7, with qualification still hanging in the balance.
Resuming at 222/1, Gujarat’s Priyank Panchal, who started the day on 117, went on to score 148. However, his dismissal—along with quick wickets of Manan Hingraija (LBW to Jalaj Saxena) and Urvil Patel (stumped for 25)—led to a collapse, reducing Gujarat from 277/2 to 325/6.
Jaymeet then steadied the innings, first adding 32 runs with Vishal Jayswal before forging an unbeaten 72-run stand with Siddharth Desai, who dug in for 134 balls to score 24. Despite hitting only two boundaries, Jaymeet played smart cricket against a tiring Kerala attack, ensuring Gujarat remained just 28 runs behind the lead with three wickets in hand.
With an outright result unlikely, Gujarat’s tail now carries the responsibility of securing the lead and sealing a spot in the final.
Brief Scores:
Gujarat 429/7 (Priyank Panchal 148, Jaymeet Patel 74*; Jalaj Saxena 4-137) trail Kerala 457 by 28 run
