Pat Cummins Drops Big Update on IPL 2025 Comeback

Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins has set his sights on a return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, following an ankle injury that ruled him out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Australian Test and ODI captain has resumed training and is confident of regaining full fitness in time to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad in the upcoming T20 season.

Pat Cummins Confident About Recovery

Cummins, who sustained the injury during India’s tour of Australia, has been undergoing rehabilitation and believes his ankle is in better shape than it has been in a long time.

“The ankle is feeling as strong as it has in a while. I was able to give it proper rest and gradually build back up, something you don’t always get to do when playing all year round,” Cummins shared.

He assured fans that his IPL 2025 participation remains on track, saying:

“It should be fine for the IPL, that’s the plan. A few more weeks of bowling, and hopefully, I won’t have to worry about it anymore.”

Managing Workload & Injury Concerns

Cummins acknowledged that his ankle issue requires ongoing management, but the break has given him valuable time to rehab properly.

“We’ve opted not to go for surgery but instead focused on strengthening and rehab. Having this break allowed me to get a couple of cortisone shots and work on recovery without rushing back.”

Given the intense cricket calendar, Cummins emphasized the importance of workload management, suggesting that skipping certain tours can extend a player’s career.

“Sometimes, by missing the odd tour, you actually end up playing more throughout the year. The focus is on keeping players at their peak for as long as possible.”

Australia Missing Key Pacers in Champions Trophy

With Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc all unavailable, Australia’s pace attack in the Champions Trophy has been led by Nathan Ellis and Ben Dwarshuis. Cummins praised Ellis for his adaptability with both the new and old ball.

“Nathan is incredibly valuable. He can bowl in any phase of the game – powerplay, middle overs, or at the death. He doesn’t need to take the new ball to be effective.”

With his return to IPL 2025 on the horizon, Cummins will be looking to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad to their first title since 2016, hoping to build on their finals appearance last season.
