AUTHOR Aarti Pandey’s Report on the “2036” Olympic Strategy
Hello everyone! Today, we’re discussing India’s performance at the Olympics. This year, India sent a contingent of 117 athletes to Paris, matching the number from the Rio Olympics. While we did win more medals than in Rio, our overall ranking suffered. India finished in 71st place in Paris.
Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has stated that India’s goal is to host the 2036 Olympics and to be among the top 10 in the medal table. Speaking at the ‘Developed India Ambassador-Youth Connect’ initiative at SP College in Pune, he emphasized the need for special encouragement in sports to achieve development in all sectors.
He said, “By 2047, our goal is to be among the top five countries in sports. To achieve this, we must ensure we don’t miss the opportunity in 2047. We need to develop world-class athletes.” The sports minister added, “We launched Khelo India to nurture such talent. With Khelo India, young athletes should have more opportunities to compete.”
