Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz has confirmed his withdrawal from the 2025 Madrid Open, delivering heartbreaking news to fans just weeks before the French Open. The 21-year-old, currently ranked World No. 3, is battling two leg injuries that he picked up during his recent run at the Barcelona Open.

Alcaraz made the announcement via a video message on Instagram, explaining that although he was desperate to compete in Madrid, his body just wasn’t ready.

“I wanted to play here so badly. But after doing all the tests and talking with my team, we decided it’s best not to take any risks. My leg still hasn’t recovered the way we hoped,” said Alcaraz.

Barcelona Injuries Force a Change of Plans

The injury stems from the Barcelona Open final, where Alcaraz needed treatment for his abductor muscle. Later scans also revealed another issue in his left leg, making his return even more uncertain.

“You have to listen to your body,” Alcaraz admitted. “We gave it everything, but sometimes, it’s smarter to step back.”

Carlos Alcaraz was set to play in the second round in Madrid, facing either Zizou Bergs or Gabriel Diallo. He will now be replaced in the draw by Kamil Majchrzak.

Eyes Now on Roland Garros

With his participation in the Italian Open also hanging in the balance, fans and experts alike are wondering if he’ll be fully fit for the French Open, which kicks off later in May.

Alcaraz has always shown maturity beyond his years on the court, and this decision to prioritize long-term health is further proof. While fans may be disappointed now, the hope is that this careful approach will see him back at his best when it matters most.
