A 24-year-old fan from China named Gong embarked on an incredible 13,000-kilometer bike ride to meet his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo. This Ronaldo Chinese superfan began his journey on March 18, traveling through Kazakhstan, Georgia, Iran, and Qatar before finally reaching Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on October 10.
What Inspired the Adventure?
Gong’s decision to hit the road came after Ronaldo’s planned visit to China was canceled due to an injury. Determined to make his dream come true, the Ronaldo Chinese superfan packed essentials like power banks, a tent, cooking tools, and clothes. Despite language barriers, limited money, and physical challenges, he kept going.
Pushing Through Obstacles
The journey wasn’t easy. Gong often ate bread to save money and used translation apps to communicate with locals. In August, things got tough when he fell seriously ill in Armenia with a high fever. Fortunately, he received free medical care, allowing him to keep going toward his goal.
A Dream Come True
Gong reached Riyadh just as Ronaldo was traveling in Europe, but he waited patiently. Thanks to help from Al Nassr FC staff and a generous fan, the Ronaldo Chinese superfan got a ticket to watch his hero play against Al Shabab. His perseverance paid off when he finally met Ronaldo, receiving a handshake, a hug, and a signed jersey. Ronaldo also signed a banner Gong carried, featuring messages from his friends and the phrase, “What I dream of is true love and freedom.”
Reflecting on his experience, Gong said, “It was all worth it.” His determination and passion turned an ambitious journey into an unforgettable memory.
