IND vs BAN: Gill and Shami Shine as India Crush Bangladesh in Champions Trophy Opener

IND vs BAN: Dubai witnessed a dominant Indian performance as Mohammed Shami’s fiery spell and Shubman Gill’s composed century powered India to a six-wicket win over Bangladesh in their Champions Trophy 2025 opener.

Bangladesh, opting to bat first, suffered an early collapse, reeling at 35/5 within the first 10 overs. Shami was relentless, swinging the ball both ways to rattle their top order. His devastating 5/53 had Bangladesh in shambles before Towhid Hridoy (100) and Jaker Ali (68) staged a remarkable comeback. The duo’s record-breaking 154-run stand lifted Bangladesh to 228 before India wrapped up the innings.

Chasing 229, India got off to a flying start, with Rohit Sharma (41) and Gill setting the tone. Though Rohit fell early, Gill stood firm, showcasing his class with a well-paced unbeaten 101 off 125 balls. KL Rahul provided stability in the middle, ensuring India crossed the finish line comfortably with 21 balls to spare.

With this win, India gears up for a high-voltage clash against Pakistan on February 23, while Bangladesh will look to bounce back against New Zealand on February 24. Shami’s brilliance with the ball and Gill’s masterclass with the bat ensured India’s campaign began in style.
