Riding high on their winning streak, the Indian team now sets its sights on winning the second T20 match in Delhi on Wednesday to secure the T20 series. India dominated the first match in Gwalior, clinching a seven-wicket victory, and the team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, is one step away from claiming the series.
In the first match, Mayank Yadav and Nitish Reddy made their debuts, and it remains to be seen whether the management sticks with the winning combination or experiments with bench strength. Despite resting key players like Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, and Jasprit Bumrah, India’s dominance showcased their strong bench strength in limited-overs cricket.
Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson is eager to shine in this match. Having made his international debut in 2015, he has faced inconsistency, resulting in his fluctuating position in the team. Although he usually bats in the middle order, he opened the innings in the first match, scoring 29 runs off 19 balls. Captain Suryakumar has confirmed that Samson will continue this role in the series. Alongside him, Abhishek Sharma was unable to convert a solid start into a big score in the previous match. With Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill rested, both Samson and Abhishek aim to capitalize on this opportunity.
The likelihood of changes in the victorious Indian team is minimal. Debutants Mayank Yadav and Nitish Reddy made a mark in Gwalior, while Arshdeep Singh excelled in pace bowling, and spinner Varun Chakravarthy made a successful return after three years.
On the other hand, if Bangladesh wishes to keep the series alive, they must deliver their best performance. The batsmen underperformed in the first match, with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto admitting post-match that they struggled to score over 180 runs. However, he expressed confidence that the team could bounce back despite their disappointing performance.
