India’s victory over Pakistan in the Women’s T20 World Cup is being seen as a missed chance to improve their net run rate (NRR), even though they restricted Pakistan to just 105 runs. India, who lost their first match against New Zealand, needed a big win to boost their standings in Group A. Despite a six-wicket win, India remains at fourth place with two points and an NRR of -1.217. Harmanpreet Kaur’s knock of 29 was the only performance with a strike-rate above 100, but she retired hurt due to a neck injury.

Opener Shafali Verma scored 32, while Jemimah Rodrigues added 23. India’s next matches against Sri Lanka and Australia are crucial for improving their NRR and securing a semifinal spot. According to former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali, India needs a big win against Sri Lanka to stay in contention. Smriti Mandhana, who scored seven runs, admitted the team was conscious of the NRR but struggled to start well with the bat.

India will aim for momentum heading into their decisive matches.
