Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan, a regular voice in IPL commentary over the years, has been left out of the panel for IPL 2025. His absence has sparked speculation, with reports suggesting that his outspoken views on certain players led to complaints.
Why Was Pathan Snubbed?
According to sources, some Indian cricketers were unhappy with Pathan’s critical remarks, believing they were personally motivated. A report from MyKhel even claims that one player went as far as blocking Pathan’s number after being targeted in his analysis.
A source quoted in the report said:
“Pathan’s name would have been there, but this has been building up for two years. Some players felt he was carrying personal agendas, and that didn’t sit well with the system.”
History Repeats Itself?
Pathan isn’t the first commentator to face such consequences. Sanjay Manjrekar was removed from the BCCI’s panel in 2020 after his controversial “bits and pieces” remark about Ravindra Jadeja. Similarly, Harsha Bhogle was suddenly dropped from the IPL commentary team in 2016, allegedly after complaints from players.
Despite the setback, Pathan is keeping busy—he has launched his own YouTube channel, where he shares his insights on the game.
