Mitchell Marsh Ruled Out of Champions Trophy – IPL in Doubt

A back injury has ruled Mitchell Marsh out of the ICC Champions Trophy, dealing a blow to Australia’s plans. With his recovery still in progress, his participation in the IPL with Lucknow Super Giants is also in doubt.

Marsh’s season has been far from ideal. He struggled in the recent Test series against India, scoring just 73 runs in seven innings. His role with the ball was minimal, and he eventually lost his spot in the team to Beau Webster for the final Test in Sydney. After the series, he played only one Big Bash League (BBL) match before stepping away to focus on his fitness. However, his back issues have not improved, forcing selectors to pull him out of the Champions Trophy squad.

Cricket Australia (CA) released a statement confirming his absence, citing “ongoing lower back pain and dysfunction.” The selectors, along with the medical team, felt it was best for Marsh to undergo an extended rehabilitation period rather than risk further injury.

Who Will Replace Mitchell Marsh ?

With Marsh out, Australia needs a replacement in the squad. Jake Fraser-McGurk is one possible option. He had a tough BBL season and struggled against Pakistan earlier this year, but his explosive batting style makes him a potential fit at No. 3.

The team could also look at other all-rounders. Will Sutherland, who played ODIs last year, might be considered. Beau Webster is another possibility, though he has no experience in ODI cricket. Meanwhile, Cameron Green remains unavailable as he continues his recovery from back surgery.
