Rohit Sharma’s IPL 2025 campaign began on a disappointing note as the former Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper registered a four-ball duck in their opening match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. With this dismissal, Rohit equaled the unwanted record for the most ducks in IPL history, joining Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik at the top of the list.
Rohit Sharma’s Unwanted Milestone
Facing CSK pacer Khaleel Ahmed, Rohit attempted a flick but ended up giving a simple catch to Shivam Dube at mid-wicket in the very first over. This marked his 18th duck in IPL history, putting him level with Maxwell and Karthik.
Most Ducks in IPL History:
1️⃣ Rohit Sharma – 18 ducks (253 innings)
2️⃣ Glenn Maxwell – 18 ducks (129 innings)
3️⃣ Dinesh Karthik – 18 ducks (234 innings)
4️⃣ Piyush Chawla – 16 ducks (92 innings)
5️⃣ Sunil Narine – 16 ducks (111 innings)
Additionally, this was Rohit’s fourth IPL duck against CSK, a number he also shares against Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
CSK Secure Confident Victory Over MI
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) kicked off their IPL 2025 campaign in style, registering a comfortable four-wicket win over Mumbai Indians at Chepauk. Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK’s bowlers, particularly Noor Ahmad (4/18) and Khaleel Ahmed (3/29), dismantled MI’s batting lineup, restricting them to 155/9.
Despite a few hiccups in the chase, Rachin Ravindra anchored the innings with an unbeaten 65 off 45 balls, ensuring CSK crossed the finish line. Gaikwad also contributed with a blistering 53 off 26 to set the tone early in the innings.
