In a rare, heartfelt moment on the RCB Podcast, Virat Kohli opened up about the quiet, often-overlooked side of an IPL season—the loneliness inside hotel rooms. Speaking with TV presenter Mayanti Langer, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru star reflected on the solitude that comes with life on the road.
“When you’re in hotel rooms, it can be very lonely, right?” Mayanti asked. “Are you always looking for that balance?”
Kohli, never one to dodge an honest question, responded with trademark introspection.
“When there’s so much noise and attention outside, my room becomes my safe space,” Virat shared. “I don’t feel the urge to constantly go out or socialize. I speak to my family throughout the day, and that keeps me grounded.”
Balance Over Buzz
Kohli emphasized that his approach isn’t about avoiding people—it’s about choosing peace.
“For some, going out and hanging with teammates helps. For me, it’s about where I feel most at peace,” he said. “I do hang out with the boys occasionally, and that’s refreshing. But daily, I prefer to stay in and recharge.”
So what helps Kohli unwind? Not flashy parties. Not city tours. But something far simpler.
“My packet of makhanas keeps me grounded,” he smiled.
Still Setting the Standard
At 36, Virat Kohli is showing no signs of slowing down. He’s currently leading the Orange Cap race in IPL 2025 with 505 runs from 11 innings, including seven fifties—a testament to his enduring class and unmatched discipline.
And in true Kohli style, he added a touch of humor off the field too.
“He Doesn’t Leave Me Alone”: Kohli on Roommate Woes
At a fan meet-and-greet ahead of RCB’s clash with CSK, Kohli was asked which teammate he wouldn’t share a room with.
“Definitely not Swastik [Chikara],” he joked. “He does not leave me alone!”
Swastik, the young domestic cricketer and rising meme sensation, is often seen trailing Kohli on matchdays—hydrating him, cracking jokes, and making fans laugh with his antics.
But Kohli did name one teammate he’d happily room with.
“Jitesh Sharma. He’s funny, has a mischievous look in his eyes, and is very street-smart. I’d like to get to know that raw side of him better.”
The Run Machine Rolls On
As of now, Kohli sits third in the overall run charts with 443 runs in 10 innings, averaging 63.28 and striking at nearly 139. His best knock so far? A classy 73 not out.
With RCB currently second in the table (7 wins, 3 losses), they’ll host Chennai Super Kings this Saturday in what promises to be another IPL blockbuster.
But no matter what happens under the stadium lights, it’s clear Kohli’s real strength continues to come from within—fueled by family, focus, and yes… makhanas.
