Will Pat Cummins Be Fit in Time for IPL 2025 and the WTC Final?

After months of recovery and quality family time, Australian Test captain Pat Cummins is ready to step back onto the cricketing stage, using the IPL 2025 as his springboard to full fitness. The Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper is optimistic about his recovery from an ankle injury, setting his sights on leading his franchise in the upcoming tournament before tackling the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against South Africa on June 11 at Lord’s.

From Rehab to the IPL Spotlight

Cummins, who played a pivotal role in Australia’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy triumph, endured immense pain during the final Test against India in Sydney. His injury forced him out of Australia’s Test series against Sri Lanka and the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan. But this downtime coincided with a personal milestone—the birth of his second child, daughter Edi—offering him a rare chance to prioritize family over cricket.

“It’s been an amazing month just being fully present with my family, not thinking about training or upcoming tours,” Cummins shared with cricket.com.au. “But now, I’m feeling good and eager to get back in action.”

IPL 2025: Will Pat Cummins be fit?

Cummins has resumed running and plans to start bowling in the coming days, hoping to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) when the IPL kicks off on March 22. The 31-year-old views the fast-paced T20 format as an ideal way to ramp up his match fitness ahead of the WTC Final and a three-Test series in the Caribbean.

“That’s the aim—start bowling soon, build up gradually, and be ready for IPL,” he said. “The intensity of T20s helps keep you sharp. It’s only four overs, but at high intensity, which is great preparation for longer formats.”

Cummins acknowledges that his recovery needs careful management, but he’s confident about his path forward.

“The ankle is feeling better. It’s one of those injuries where rest is crucial. I’ve been doing a lot of rehab and strength work in the gym. As a fast bowler, you have to progress step by step—start running, then bowling, and keep building up.”

For Cummins, IPL 2025 isn’t just about leading SRH—it’s about fine-tuning his rhythm for the WTC Final and Australia’s upcoming Test battles.

“I’m hopeful this short break will set me up well for the year ahead. The goal is to peak at the right time,” he added.
