Hemang Badani Takes the Helm
Former India cricketer Hemang Badani is the new head coach of the Delhi Capitals. Badani, who represented India in Tests and ODIs, is stepping in for Ricky Ponting. Ponting has left the team after a remarkable seven season stint to join Punjab Kings. Badani’s coaching credentials are solid, having led the Chepauk Super Gillies to three Tamil Nadu Premier League titles and worked as a fielding coach for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
“We are delighted to welcome Hemang and Venu to Delhi Capitals,” said Kiran Kumar Grandhi, Chairman & Co-owner of the Capitals.
“Both have been an integral part of our team for a long time, and we’re excited to have them on board in a different role. With their proven track record as coaches, we’re confident that their expertise will be invaluable in helping us achieve our objectives and drive success for Delhi Capitals.”

Venugopal Rao Steps Up
Alongside Badani, former India batter Venugopal Rao has been appointed as the new Director of Cricket, taking over from Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly has moved on to a prominent role as Director of Cricket at JSW Sports. Rao, who has played 16 ODIs for India, has been with the Capitals in various capacities over the years and is now set to steer the ship from an executive position.
A New Era for Delhi Capitals
This changes aims to bring new energy to the Capitals and end their title drought.
“It’s my absolute honour to be joining Delhi Capitals, and I’m deeply grateful to our owners for trusting me with the job,” said Badani. “With the mega auction around the corner, my job, in collaboration with the rest of our coaching staff, is cut out. I can’t wait to gEt started.”
