ICC ODI Rankings Shake-Up: Shubman Gill Dethrones Babar Azam as No.1 Batter!

Ahead of the highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the latest ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings have brought significant changes, with India’s Shubman Gill reclaiming the No.1 spot in batting and Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana emerging as the top-ranked bowler.

Shubman Gill Reclaims No.1 ODI Batter Ranking

Shubman Gill has once again ascended to the pinnacle of ODI batting, surpassing former Pakistan captain Babar Azam to secure the No.1 position. His exceptional performances in the recent ODI series against England, where he registered scores of 87, 60, and 112, played a crucial role in propelling him back to the top.

With 796 rating points, Gill now leads Babar Azam (773) by a margin of 23 points. Meanwhile, India captain Rohit Sharma remains in third place, trailing his compatriot by 45 points. New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell has moved up to fifth, while Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka has made a significant jump of eight spots to enter the top ten at No.8.

Maheesh Theekshana Claims No.1 Bowler Ranking

In the bowling department, Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana has dethroned Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan to become the world’s No.1-ranked ODI bowler. His outstanding spell against Australia, which included a crucial four-wicket haul in Colombo, played a decisive role in his rise to the top. This achievement marks a historic milestone, as Theekshana becomes the first Sri Lankan spinner to reach the No.1 ranking.

Despite this shift, Rashid Khan remains in close contention, trailing Theekshana by just 11 rating points. With the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 approaching, the competition for the top spot is expected to intensify.

Other Notable Ranking Changes

  • India’s Kuldeep Yadav has climbed to fourth place in the bowling rankings.
  • South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj has risen to No.6, while New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner secures the seventh position.
  • Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan has reached a career-high ranking of No.15 in batting.
  • Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi continues to lead the ODI all-rounder rankings, with Mitchell Santner moving up to sixth.
