The controversy erupted after former England cricketers Nasser Hussain and Mike Atherton questioned why India was scheduled to play all their matches in Dubai, while other teams had to deal with extensive travel. The Indian government did not permit the team to travel to Pakistan due to security concerns, prompting the ICC to accommodate India’s games in the UAE.

With Australia and South Africa also flying to Dubai in anticipation of a potential semifinal clash against India, critics argue that India has been given an unfair advantage, avoiding the fatigue and logistical challenges faced by other teams.

Inzamam-ul-Haq Call for an IPL Boycott

Speaking on a Pakistani TV channel, Inzamam strongly criticized the BCCI, urging cricket boards worldwide to take a stand against what he perceives as unfair treatment.

“Forget the Champions Trophy for a moment. Indian players don’t play in foreign leagues, but foreign players participate in the IPL. If BCCI doesn’t allow its players to play overseas, other boards should stop sending their players to the IPL.”

Under BCCI’s policies, Indian cricketers are not permitted to participate in foreign T20 leagues unless they retire from IPL and Indian domestic cricket. Inzamam argues that other boards should respond in kind, potentially denying their players the opportunity to participate in one of the world’s most lucrative league.
