IPL 2025 Kickoff: The much-anticipated opening match of IPL 2025 between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens is facing a serious threat – and not from the opposition, but from the weather.
With a grand opening ceremony featuring Disha Patani and Shreya Ghoshal, fans were gearing up for an electrifying start to the season. However, heavy rain and thunderstorms could completely wash out the game.
Why is the IPL 2025 Opener at Risk?
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Kolkata on March 22, the opening day of the tournament. A Yellow Alert is in place for the following day. According to AccuWeather, there’s a 74% chance of rain during the day and a staggering 90% probability in the evening, just when the match is scheduled to take place.
With 97% cloud cover expected, the possibility of a full game seems bleak. Whether KKR and RCB will get enough time on the field to determine a result remains uncertain.
Eden Gardens Faces Another IPL 2025 Schedule Change
This isn’t the only disruption to KKR’s home fixtures. Their match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 6 has already been shifted to Guwahati due to security concerns related to Ram Navami celebrations in Kolkata.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) confirmed that local authorities couldn’t guarantee security for the event. CAB President Snehasish Ganguly stated,
“We informed the BCCI about the issue, and since rescheduling wasn’t possible, the match is now moving to Guwahati.”
With unpredictable weather and last-minute venue changes, IPL 2025 is off to a stormy start – both literally and figuratively! Fans will be hoping for a miracle break in the rain to witness the first showdown of the season.
