Rajasthan Royals will have a new captain at the start of IPL 2025. With regular skipper Sanju Samson still recovering from a finger injury, Riyan Parag will step in to lead the team for their first three matches of the season.
Sanju Samson to Play as a Batter
Samson, who injured his thumb during India’s T20I series against England in January, has not been cleared by the BCCI for wicketkeeping duties yet. However, he will still play as a specialist batter in these games.

Riyan Parag’s Big Opportunity
For Parag, this is a milestone moment. The 23-year-old all-rounder has been with the Royals for years and had a breakthrough IPL 2024 season, scoring 573 runs at a strike rate of nearly 150. His performances earned him an India call-up, and now he will have the chance to captain an IPL side for the first time.
Parag will become one of the youngest Indian captains in IPL history, following in the footsteps of Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina.
Royals’ Opening Fixtures
Rajasthan Royals will kick off their IPL 2025 campaign against SunRisers Hyderabad on March 23. They will then face Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26 before taking on Chennai Super Kings on March 30.
Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel is expected to take on wicketkeeping duties in Samson’s absence.
Stay tuned as the Royals begin their season with a fresh leadership change!
