The only Test against Afghanistan and New Zealand in Greater Noida was called off without a ball being bowled. This was just the eighth time in cricket history when a Test was canceled due to inclement weather. As a result of the continuous rain that prevented the two teams from playing, it also become the first Test in Asia to be called off this century.

Heavy rain throughout the New Delhi metropolitan region delayed play on the primary day of the international match. The following day, the surrounding area was in poor shape, with ground staff cutting grass from training pitches to put on the main field. The umpires deemed the field unfit for play due to insufficient drainage facilities, which further compounded the situation. The upshot of the inclement weather and unfavorable playing conditions was that the game was ultimately cancelled.

“The fifth and last afternoon of the Afghanistan vs. the New Zealand cricket Test was also called on by the match officials,” wicket Afghanistan Cricket Board said in an official statement, citing the ongoing rain in the greater Noida area as the reason for the cancellation. The whole Test was eventually called off due to the ongoing rain and poor ground conditions.
