Pakistan’s Champions Trophy 2025 campaign is spiraling out of control, and Shoaib Akhtar isn’t holding back. After their six-wicket loss to India in Dubai, the legendary pacer took to social media to blast Pakistan’s management, calling them “brainless and clueless” for their poor team selection and lack of strategy.
Shoaib Akhtar Rips Into Pakistan’s Tactics
Pakistan posted a below-par 241 in the first innings, which India chased down with ease, thanks to Virat Kohli’s unbeaten century. With this loss, Pakistan’s chances of making the semi-finals have become extremely slim.
Akhtar, clearly frustrated, didn’t mince his words:
“I am not disappointed because I knew this would happen. You can’t pick just five bowlers when the whole world is playing six. Going in with two all-rounders instead of specialists? This is just poor, directionless management.”
According to Akhtar, the team lacks both intent and skillset, especially when compared to India’s batting powerhouses like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill. He emphasized that the blame doesn’t lie solely with the players, but with a management that “doesn’t know what it’s doing.”
Pakistan’s Batting Woes Continue
Earlier in the game, Akhtar had already voiced his concerns about Pakistan’s fragile batting lineup. He compared their struggles to Glenn Maxwell’s heroic knock against Afghanistan in the 2023 World Cup, arguing that intent alone isn’t enough—you need skill, execution, and temperament to succeed at the highest level.
“This is Pakistan’s batting for you. They can only show intent if they have the skillset. When they don’t, how can they do what Maxwell did? Intent, skill, execution—without all three, you can’t post competitive totals.”
Can Pakistan Still Qualify?
Pakistan now faces a do-or-die clash against Bangladesh on February 27. Their only hope of advancing to the semi-finals relies on:
- Bangladesh defeating New Zealand
- Pakistan beating Bangladesh by a huge margin to edge out rivals on Net Run Rate (NRR)
While qualification isn’t mathematically impossible, Pakistan’s fate is no longer in their own hands—and Akhtar’s harsh words only highlight the growing frustration among fans and former players alike.
With one game left, can Pakistan pull off a miracle, or will this campaign end in disaster?
